For the Freshmen students, no, as the first-year co-op is to learn about the culture of work, introduction to the real job market. Second- and third years’ co-op recommended the relevance to students’ majors and field of study. We suggest discussing with UCA SAS academic advisors and co-op mentors your career perspectives and clarifying strong competencies and modifying the trajectory of career path.

Are there on-campus internships available through the UCA Co-op department? If so, what types of on-campus internships are typically offered?
Co-op:
Yes, the Co-op department does offer on-campus internships for UCA students. These internships provide valuable hands-on experience within the university environment. The on-campus internship opportunities encompass a range of roles, including teaching assistants, research assistants, social media intern, web-developers, and many more.
Student:
How many hours are students allowed to work during the academic semester?
Co-op:
Based on the On-campus employment policy, students are allowed to work only 60 hours per month (10 to 15 hours per week).
Student:
I already accepted one offer for the on-campus work (maybe internship), may I apply for another internship?
Co-op:
No, students are only allowed to have one part-time (10 to 15 hours per week) internship offer at one time.
Student:
Will the internships be paid?
Co-op:
The UCA Co-op Education department strives to provide paid internships for students, however, a paid internship is not guaranteed.
Student:
Does the Co-op program guarantee a job placement after graduation?
Co-op:
The UCA Co-op Education program cannot guarantee a job placement after graduation. However, students with the Co-op experience have an industry advantage due to their comprehensive work experience and valuable industry networking.
Student:
Will working in clubs, projects or involving in the activities counted as Co-op experience?
Co-op:
Unfortunately, no. Typically these activities are considered as part of students’ obligations within UCA and are recognized as social activism on the campuses. However, if students are engaged in activities related to local community development, entrepreneurship, or start-up development we are open to discussing the acceptance of proven achievements as Co-op experience on a case-by-case basis.
Student:
Can previous internship experience before joining UCA be counted as part of the Co-op program?
Co-op:
Yes, previous experience can be counted as co-op through the Work Term Challenge. There is a specific form for reporting this experience, so please ensure you have all the necessary contact details of your supervisor.

Additionally, the experience gained during the Prep Year will also be accepted. Please note that the reporting can only be done in the Freshmen year and the deadline will be announced during the PPD sessions.

Can I include my entrepreneurship experience as part of the Co-op and what documents are required?
Co-op:
Yes, your entrepreneurship experience is highly suitable to be included as part of the Co-op program. However, please be aware that there is a comprehensive list of required documents. In addition to the standard Co-op documents, you will be required to provide the following:

1. Business model, which can be submitted on Canvas.
2. Clients’ list, showcasing the individuals or organizations you have worked with.
3. Stakeholder analysis, outlining the key stakeholders involved in your business.
4. Official documents, such as business registration or incorporation papers.
5. Social media pages or any other evidence that supports the establishment and experience of your company/business.

Is it true that online tutoring experience (SkyEng, NativeCamp, SkyFord, EnglishDom, EdVibe) is no longer accepted as co-op experience?
Co-op:
Yes, it is true, as of now, only 480 hours of online tutoring experience can be submitted as part of the Co-op program in Freshmen year. However, there are exceptions for Computer Science Sophomore and Junior students teaching subjects such as Programming, Chess, and Math. In those cases, the online tutoring experience can still be considered as eligible for the Co-op program.

Are there any deadlines for submitting Co-op reports?
Co-op:
Yes, there are two deadlines for submitting Co-op reports. The deadline for summer work terms is October 15th, and for winter work terms is February 15th. It is important to adhere to these deadlines to ensure timely processing and evaluation of your Co-op experience. The grading for co-op programs will be provided in December of each year.

What are the requirements for reports after each work term?
Co-op:
Students are obliged to submit the Work Term Report (WTR), Competency Assessment form (CAF), timesheet, before the deadline after the work term. Please make sure that you have shared the signed job offer form and contact details of your supervisor. The Co-op Coordinator will request an evaluation from both you and your supervisor to assess your performance during the work term. All the required forms and documents can be accessed on the Moodle Co-op page.

What should I do if I fail the Co-op program?
Co-op:
According to the university's policy, the grade for a failed co-op can be changed within two months from the original grade assignment. First, please (re-) submit reports to Co-op coordinators, work on the received feedback after the "Grade Change" form is completed. The form is required to be signed by Dean/Associate Dean and then submitted to the Registrar’s office.
